Sailplane Instruction
Once you have made the decision to learn to fly, we will schedule you for a one-and-a-half hour lesson with one of our FAA certified flight instructors. Your instructor will also recommend several books to help you prepare for your FAA written exam. Most students schedule about one lesson per week. Every lesson averages three flights, although you may fly more, or less, depending on lift conditions are where you are in the learning process. The cost of each lesson depends on the number and length of your flights.

When your instructor has determined that you are ready, usually after ten or twelve flight hours, he will send you up on your first solo flight. After your first solo, you will continue to build flight time, transitioning to new gliders, and fine-tuning your flying skills. When you have logged two hours of solo flight, you will be eligible to take your FAA flight test and will receive a Private Pilot Certificate.

Now that you have earned your pilot certificate, you may begin taking up friends and family for glider rides, sharing with them the thrill you still feel on every flight. Your flying skills will continue to develop as you work the rising currents of air, called lift, striving to expand your horizons by flying higher, farther, faster, or staying up longer than you ever have before.
Estimated Cost
Although the cost of learning to fly varies from pilot to pilot, we have found that the average student will spend $310 per lesson, or about $3250 to solo. The FAA requires two solo hours and ten solo flights for a student to be eligible for a Private Pilot Certificate. The total cost up to a certification is about $4500-5000.

A pilot can add on a glider rating to an existing power certificate for about $3500. The FAA requires ten solo flights for a private rating and twenty solos for a commercial rating. The add-on meets the requirements for a flight review.

Our aim is to help each pilot develop and refine his flying skills and discover the essence of soaring. We look forward to sharing with you the thrill and freedom of silent flight!
